John J. Thames

John graduated magna cum laude from St. John’s University in 2003. He graduated cum laude from the University of Minnesota Law School in 2006, where he was a director of the Labor and Employment Law Moot Court and a top member of the Multi-Profession Business Law Clinic. John joined Carson, Clelland & Schreder in December of 2006. Since that time, John has worked primarily in the field of municipal law. John serves as the City Attorney for several cities, and also assists in the representation of each of the firm’s other municipal clients. He has also provided his skill set to other cities, acting as special counsel to assert and protect city rights in numerous areas of municipal law.

John also represents private clients in real estate transactions and disputes, commercial lease negotiations, business contract disputes, criminal defense, creditors’ remedies cases, and represents small businesses as general counsel.

In his spare time, John enjoys spending time with his family, enjoying the outdoors, and coaching youth sports.
